Drywall (also called sheetrock) is composed of compressed gypsum--a crystalline mineral that is fire resistant--sandwiched between two paper layers. It is the primary construction material used for the surface of walls in homes and commercial buildings. Sheetrock varies in thickness, from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch, and can easily become damaged in your home.
